The drive west from I-75 to Boca Grande takes about 30 minutes, but as soon as you pay the $3.50 toll to cross onto Boca Grande, the trip is instantly worth it. Blue waters underneath the swing bridge let you know you are visiting a special place. Boca Grande's heritage is steeped in Gatsby-esque glamour, with high-end resorts such as the Gasparilla Inn, but it's also home to generations of salty commercial fishermen. The island is famed for its tarpon fishing, and many of the beaches and bridges, as well as the 5th Street Pier, offer good fishing and social gathering spots in this northwest boundary of Lee County. At the west end of the island is Boca Grande Lighthouse Park, which sits on deep Boca Grande Pass. This area offers excellent fishing from a boat - or from the beach.
